P&O Ventura – Christmas Markets Mini Cruise

In November 2019 Kyrah spent 3 nights on board P&O‘s Ventura on a Christmas Markets Cruise from Southampton.

Our short break started with a 7 hour coach journey from Ipswich to Southampton, where we were staying the night before boarding the ship the next day. After a quick lift by taxi from the hotel, we were very pleased to see the beautiful Ventura docked at the terminal. As soon as we arrived the welcoming and friendly staff greeted us.

Onboard Ventura

From the relaxation of the tranquil spa to the scrumptious fine dining, the ship was truly breath-taking. Our inside cabin was comfortable and spacious, allowing us to relax and enjoy our break. On the first evening, we dined in The Beach House and enjoyed a chilled-out meal with food from the grill. Both the food and the service we received was amazing making the Beach House one of our favourites onboard. We really enjoyed spending our evenings in the Havana Bar, a Cuban themed night club. Although it is one of the busiest, the spacious set up meant we could enjoy the entertainment and have a good dance.

We decided to book the ‘Half a day in Bruges’ shore excursion. This meant that we would have a relaxed coach journey from the port to the centre of Bruges, whilst also being able to have some free time. We used this time to explore all of the other delights that Bruges has to offer. Many of the local shops sell lots of things ideal for souvenirs or gifts. I sampled the local Belgian chocolate and enjoyed a hot drink at a lovely café. The markets were only a short walk away from the coach station so we didn’t have to stress about timing. The walk was also very scenic, there were so many beautiful things to look at like the horse & carts and little boats sailing down the canal.  Boat Trips on the Canal

Kyrah‘s Thoughts

Overall, we had a really enjoyable experience. I would definitely recommend P&O’s Ventura Christmas Markets to anyone who is looking for a festive getaway. Bruges is a great destination with lots of opportunities for sightseeing and shopping. The markets had such a festive touch with the smell of mulled wine, bright red and green tones with Christmas trumpets playing in the background. We are so glad that we booked the shore excursion so that we didn’t need to worry about finding transport to and from the cruise terminal. This still gave us plenty of time to look around. It made our cruise very relaxed and we would definitely visit Bruges again!
